SCC's Genetics Information Systems Suite®

Continuing breakthroughs in genetics and molecular diagnostics are resulting in an increase of ordered tests and the amount of data being introduced into genetics laboratories. The volume of data and complexity of the testing and interpretations are too great to be managed by traditional laboratory information systems. SCC's comprehensive suite of genetics information management system solutions provides a full range of genetics tools designed to automate workflow in today's genetics laboratories.

This suite is Web-accessible, can be integrated with hospital information systems, and offers a selection of cytogenetics, molecular, flow cytometry, biochemistry, diagnostic pathology, and immunogenetics (HLA) solutions that are highly configurable and allow for predefined, user-defined protocols.

Complete integration and a single shared database among the applications enables users to track sample progress in order to efficiently manage the sample and its testing, review concurrent and previous test results for more accurate interpretations, and - when using the Interpretive Workstation - the ability to summarize results and reports across technologies for comprehensive interpretations.

Instrument integration assists users in attaining efficacy and efficiency by avoiding the risks and time investment inherent in manual data entry and retrieval from laboratory instrumentation.

Reporting capabilities include auto-populated canned messages based on result entry, free-texting edits, spell check, placement of images and graphs in reports, and user-definable reporting templates. The flexibility and enhanced functionality of SCC reporting streamlines the reporting process and significantly reduces errors frequently made with manual reporting workflows while producing professional, easy-to-follow reports.

Rules-based system (RBS) enables users to build rules based on conditions such as test ordered, sample type, patient age, client, indication, etc. in order to provide alerts or notifications or to set an action regarding processing or reporting. This provides user-defined automation to guide users in given circumstances as well as support client standing orders.

Reagent inventory functionality resides within each application enabling users to track reagent usage, provide prompts of approaching par levels to support just-in-time ordering, and document quality control status and expiration dates with user alerts to avoid unsuitable reagent usage. Bar code label generation for reagent scanning provides auto-documentation of reagent use per sample and auto-calculated reagent depletion.

Management reporting is also available with either defined or ad hoc reports. This management reporting functionality aids the laboratory not only with productivity management, but also with quality assurance efforts and trending, and with producing patient data queries for publications or presentations.

  • Defined reports can be generated on demand or performed on a scheduler with auto-delivery to laboratory management.
  • Ad hoc reports can be user-defined based on system fields.
  • Frequently-requested novel reports can be built and saved in a reporting library for repeated use.
