Gilbert Hakim

Gilbert Hakim For those active within the LIS community, it is evident that Gilbert Hakim, founder and CEO of SCC Soft Computer, is a major force in the world of laboratory information systems.  From the earliest iterations of what has evolved into the modern LIS in the late 1970s, to leading the way in genetics-based LIS and workflow automation, Mr. Hakim has proven himself to be more than just a corporate CEO.  Often found at client sites, he is considered the most hands-on CEO in the business.  He speaks directly to laboratorians, clinical diagnosticians, and medical professionals alike and learns from them, absorbing and transforming this knowledge into SCC’s vision.

Through his contributions towards the modernization of the LIS and laboratory medicine, Mr. Hakim is a valuable part of what makes SCC special in this complex and highly competitive global industry.

Mr. Hakim graduated from Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York, with a Bachelor of Science in Physics and a Master of Science in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics.  Driven to provide innovative and practical technological solutions to the allied healthcare industry, Mr. Hakim founded SCC Soft Computer in 1979.  He focused on providing custom software programming to healthcare customers, primarily in the clinical laboratory.

Over the years — as SCC has become a global organization of more than 2,000 information technology, medical technology, communications, and business professionals dedicated to the design, development, delivery, implementation, and support of robust integrated information management system solutions for the laboratory and genetics marketplace — Mr. Hakim has been actively involved in all aspects of the Company.  Through his intimate knowledge of advances in information technology, the increasing role of molecular diagnostics, the advent of personalized medicine, and the needs of the hospital laboratory, he provides the driving vision for ongoing product development.

Mr. Hakim’s pioneering spirit, passion for healthcare information technology, and understanding of the healthcare industry’s intense regulatory environment and rapidly changing markets — combined with his expert knowledge of software development and the dedication of SCC’s diverse global workforce — keep SCC’s products at the leading edge of industry demand and have made SCC Soft Computer the world’s largest laboratory and genetics information systems vendor.
